Thank you so much!

Dear Band Families:

Many thanks to our families for your financial investment in the band program with your Performance Enhancement Fees. You may have noticed, we did reduce those this year with the knowledge that during this pandemic we would not be able to offer as much to the students. But we still want to offer as much AS WE CAN, and that does take money. Our spring coupon card sale was cut short due to the closing of schools, and we were not able to put together a “Bear Book” this year for the shortened and uncertain football season. This does have the band program at a critical point financially – and we do have opportunities we want to provide your students… so our dedicated team of parent leadership has put together a NEW fundraising opportunity that needs a small time investment from EVERYONE.

Our primary fundraising event this year will be the sale of beautiful fresh balsam and cedar wreath products from Vermont Center Wreaths, Inc.  We chose this fundraiser because of the high quality of the Vermont Center Wreath products and the long-lasting freshness experienced in prior sales.  Vermont Center Wreaths provides products at rates very similar to those found in local stores and generates a significant profit for each item sold, particularly when delivered by your student.

There are two ways to take orders for the Vermont Center Wreath products: 1. Provide the jot form link http://bit.ly/orderbandwreath

(http://bit.ly/orderbandwreath) that will take your prospective customers directly to the Cambridge Band link to place an order.  This link may also be found on the Cambridge High School Band page.  Customers will be able to view products, select the number of items chosen, identify the student they are supporting, and provide payment online.  These orders will be placed in bulk and will be delivered to the School in early December.  Students and parent volunteers will sort and fill the orders from the bulk delivery and then students will pick up their orders on December 5.  Students may then distribute their products directly to their customers.  Customers save the shipping costs and the Band program earns a higher profit per item sold!

[If a potential customer is unable to use the jot form, it is recommended that they write a check to the student or student’s parent and for the student to enter the jot form remitting payment to the band via the payment methods authorized]  2. Provide prospective customers with the link to the Vermont Center Wreaths’ Online Ordering System

http://vermontcenterwreaths.com/fundraising-store

(http:vermontcenterwreaths.com/fundraising-store with the password wreath) and select band/Cambridge High School Band.  By directing customers to this link, the customers will be able to choose their products, choose an address and date of delivery for each recipient, identify the student they are supporting, and provide payment online.  Students are encouraged to share this link widely with any and all family members, friends, and band supporters who do not live in the Milton area as Vermont Center Wreaths ships the wreath directly to your customers.  The selections and prices will vary from the local sale but all prices include delivery!

The sale will begin on Thursday, October 15 and orders must be received by October 30.  To make this sale successful, we are requesting that each band student sell a minimum of 5 products.  Every student who sells 5 wreath products in the first weekend (by Monday, October 19) will receive a $5 gift card from Starbucks!  Cash prizes for the top sellers will be $100 for first place, $75 for second place, and $50 for third place.

Wreath products make great gifts for grandparents, teachers, tutors, neighbors and family friends! This sale becomes exponentially more successful if students will reach out to those friends and families who choose to purchase holiday gifts for their family and friends.  When your customer orders gifts that are sent directly to their friends and families, you receive credit (and the Band receives profit) for each item sold.  Think of those people who send holiday gifts to clients (like real estate agents, lawyers, etc.) and encourage them to make this year’s gift a fresh holiday wreath product!

October 14th Booster Meeting

Please join us for our first monthly parent meeting of the ACTUAL calendar year of 2020-2021.

We have some very hopeful things to share with you tomorrow night and think you would all be glad you were "in the know" of the things we are trying to do for your students in the Cambridge Bands.

See you at 7:30 Virtually!

Ryan Borger Cambridge Bands

Parents & Students,

Thank you for staying focused and having some fun through a rainy Friday night performance - I hope you found a way to keep dry and enjoy the long weekend. Two very important NEW updates for you and I’ll keep this email brief!

  1. Marching Band Rehearsals will be from 4-6pm as we move forward now that we are back to Face-2-Face instruction. If you need assistance with a ride for a student that is still virtual - check with your section leaders and then email borger@fultonschools.org and we can assist you.

  2. Wednesday at 7:30 PM we have a Virtual Band Parent Meeting via TEAMS! - The link will be sent Wednesday morning and again just before the meeting.. we hope you can join us to hear some plans for moving forward to the end of the semester (and how you can help)

Wednesday will be a music rehearsal - with a slightly different report location..

Percussion/Sousas - same

Guard - same

Brass and WW - report to BACK Cafe Courtyard (Cogburn Rd Side)

Again - we will start rehearsals at 4:00 and end at 6:00 the rest of the season...

Enjoy the next couple of days - looking forward to seeing ALL of you Wednesday (in school, after school, or at the parent meeting)

Ryan Borger, director

Parents & Students,

As many of you may have heard, the superintendent delayed any athletic competitions (games) until after September 14th. THIS DOES NOT CHANGE OUR REHEARSAL PROTOCOLS and we are going to plan on having our first full band practice on Wednesday as previously announced, with the planed protocols in place. Please review the medical questions you have been sent in the last email.. if you answer YES to any of those questions you will be prohibited from staying at practice (sent home immediately). As a reminder – you must arrive wearing a mask and go to the location listed below for your medical checkin.

Woodwinds – Bus drop-off by Cafeteria

Brass – Main Lot by Vet/Science building (a tent will be up)

Guard – Bus drop-off by the practice fields

Sousas/Percussion – Band Ramp

You may arrive as early as 3:45 – MASKS WILL STAY ON COMPLETELY until Mr. Borger instructs their removal. Masks will be worn for dismissal and any time student is out of their assigned rehearsal block location.

I am confident we are doing everything possible to make this the safest and most responsible gathering of our marching band performers that we can manage – and we will learn how to do it better as we progress. If you have reservations about attending rehearsals at this point, please know these are all voluntary. We appreciate your desire to make music and perform with your friends – but everyone must do what is best for themselves – so please be smart and safe (and we will as a group).

One last mention – we do appreciate your loading the medical information into CHARMS and the payment of any owed fees is always helpful for our plans and staff considerations. Please know we will be excellent stewards of all financial obligations and if we need to make reimbursements because some things don’t happen – we will certainly do that!!

Thanks for your continued support, faith, and patience!! I miss our band family and truly look forward to the chance to work with students again soon – especially our amazing Cambridge Band Students!!

WE ARE FOCUSED – WE ARE UNITED – WE ARE CAMBRIDGE

Hi, everyone,

With today’s release of Return-to-School guidelines from the Georgia Department of Education along with tomorrow’s FCS School Board meeting to discuss the county’s plans for the fall, we think it’s best to reschedule our virtual Parent Meeting to Thursday, July 16th at 7:30 PM. This will allow time to assess any additional guidance we hope to receive in regards to fall sports and activities, especially as it relates to marching band.

As a reminder, we ask that all marching band parents plan to attend the Parent Meeting on Thursday for important updates. Zoom details will be sent out prior to the meeting.

Thank you for your patience as we anxiously await for further direction and protocols from county administration. We look forward to seeing you on Thursday!

Cambridge Band Executive Board

The coolers and cooling towels are ready to be distributed. Thank you for patience. We ran into a few logistical issues obtaining the coolers. But they are here and look AWESOME!

When? Tuesday, July 14th between 4:00-6:00 pm

Where? Distribution will occur under the portico by the gym.

How?
1. Pull your car up to the distribution location. Please remain in your vehicle.
2. At the pick up location, please tell them your student's name.
2. It is important that only one person per car requests the items and that this person practices social distancing and wears a mask.
3. We only have 2 hours to distribute, so please keep the line moving.

Should you need your order prior to Tuesday's pick-up, please contact Cindy Roberts at 404-915-1693 to make other arrangements.

Please spread the word to your friends and family if you know of anyone that would like a Cambridge cooler, as we are still taking orders.

Parents & Students,

Due to the uncertainty of our numbers and timelines allowed in rehearsals on campus at this time, we are delaying the start of ANY marching band rehearsals until July 20th. It was my sincere hope that we would be given increased numbers and rehearsal times by now, but with the growing number of COVID-19 cases it is apparent that it will take some more time for that guidance to be communicated. I am being told we will be given more clarity and expectations by early next week. With the delay of school by one week, it makes more sense to allow another week to pass and give us all more information on how we will be able to proceed.

We will be delaying any additional payment of fees at this time as we determine what the best application of those fees will be. We would greatly appreciate your payment of the deposit and the guard payment that is currently pending, if those are still outstanding (you would have received an email reminder and invoice). We would also request that when we make the actual fees that we need to collect available, you have the kind understanding that it may indeed be critical to receive payment as soon as possible to make our financial commitments as a booster organization. We will have a parent meeting via ZOOM on Tuesday, July 14th at 7:30pm and hope to share many important plans at that time.

I know these are unprecedented times and I am certain many will be relieved to receive this email and many will be upset to receive this email. All I ask is that we all keep in mind that decisions concerning student health and safety are not easy to navigate at the moment and everyone is doing the best they can with the information we are given.

Below is a new PLAN A, B, and C for the week of July 20th and 27th. I have added some evening rehearsals for the weeks of August 3rd and 10th as well (reflected on the band calendar). These will be used as necessary based on our summer timeline and what we have achieved – as well as what is expected of the coming season. These plans are ONLY for the weeks of July 20th and 27th – please see the band calendar as it is updated.

PLAN A (MONDAY THRU THURSDAY)

8:30-11:30 ALL MEMBERS (in assigned locations to manage numbers)

5:30-8:30 ALL MEMBERS (in assigned locations to manage numbers)

PLAN B (MONDAY THRU THURSDAY)

8:30-11:30 Brass and Percussion (in two different areas)

5:30-8:30 Woodwind and Guard (in two different areas)

PLAN C

Monday 8:30-11:30 Flutes & Trombones
5:30-8:30 Guard & All Percussion

Tuesday 8:30-11:30 Clarinets & Sousas/Baritones
5:30-8:30 Guard & Battery

Wednesday 8:30-11:30 Saxophones/Mellos & Trumpets
5:30-8:30 Guard & Front Ensemble

Thursday 8:30-11:30 All Percussion
5:30-8:30 Guard

This is the best I can do for a “plan” at the moment. As was stated above, we will have a parent meeting on July 14th and we will hope to elaborate more on the specifics of which plan we will be implementing for the coming weeks of hopeful instruction. Thank you for your kind understanding and we certainly hope to see you very soon. Until that time, stay safe and healthy, care for one another, and GO BEARS!

Parents & Students,

Please join me and the Cambridge Band Boosters in an exciting virtual ZOOM meeting to kickoff our 2020 Band Season THIS FRIDAY at 6PM. You should have received a link by email.

You shouldn't need the password for this meeting if you click on the hyperlink from the email. I will also make the link available to your students in the google classroom.

Information to be shared will include course offerings for next year, the planned co-curricular offerings of the band program, and current plans and "flexibilities" with the upcoming marching band season. The meeting will also introduce our slate of nominations for the band booster executive board - which we plan on virtually approving at the beginning of the meeting. The virutal kickoff will conclude with the "show reveal" for our 2020 Cambridge Marching Band Show. Much of the information shared will apply to parents, but students and parents are always eager to see the show concept for the new year and a link to the critical Marching Band Virtual Registration Form. I might suggest logging onto a computer as a family, or at least make sure one parent is available for the majority of the meeting.

We look forward to seeing you all Friday at 6PM - if you cannot make that time, the meeting will be recorded and link shared in an email and on our soial media outlets and website that evening. These are certianly strange times and we miss you all very much - looking forward to sharing some time with you Friday!!

Great News!

Attached is the complete flyer with all the details.

Also, let us know if you do purchase. We can follow up with the mattress company.

Spread the word. Cambridge Band needs your financial support more than ever!

Thank you so much!

We are so proud of Riley Welch and Jake Tyler for advancing to the second round of All-State Jazz Auditions!

In addition, both students were selected for the The Georgia Association of Jazz Educators (GAJE) High School State Jazz Clinic in conjunction with the auditions. This is an honor band event in which students selected from around the state come together to make up several big bands - they rehearse Friday and Saturday with renowned jazz professionals and educators to perform a concert Saturday afternoon. The event is held in Savannah at Georgia Southern University - Armstrong Campus from Dec. 6-7th.
